Het Utrechts Psalter. Middeleeuwse meesterwerken rond een beroemd handschrift.
- UTRECHT, Museum Catharijneconvent, 31 August - 17 November 1996. (Catalogue
in English edited by K. Van der Horst, W. Noel, W. C. M. Wustefeld)
The exhibition
is devoted to the Utrecht Psalter, one of the most prestigious manuscripts
of the Carolingian age, created during the third decade of the IX century
in the Abbey of Hautvillers near Reims. For the occasion other oriental
examples have been brought together, such as the Khludov Psalter and the
Parisian gr.20, as well as some of the most significant specimens of the
Carolingian production in the field of miniatures and sumptuaria (e.g.
the Evangeliary of Ebbone, the Sacramentary of Drogone, the Crystal of
Lotario, ivory works of Charles the Bald, etc.). This lavish exhibition
is completed by a section devoted to the influence that the Utrecht Psalter
had on the artistic production of the following centuries.
