The general theme of the Third European Congress of Medieval Studies
is Frontiers in the Middle Ages . The programme will feature eight plenary
papers and four round table discussions as well as individual papers in
four sections:
1. Law
2. Cultural contacts
3. Vernacular languages
4. Archival documents and manuscripts

Prospective participants are invited to pre-register by **30 March 2002**
in
English and in French and submit proposals for papers (20 mins) on the
theme of Frontiers with regard to the subject of any of the four sections.
The congress languages are English, French, Italian, Spanish and German.
Proposal abstracts (preferably by e-mail) should reach the secretary of
the organising committee no later than **15 April, 2002** at the Congress
